Early Learning

You are never too young or too old to learn. In fact, we all started learning from the moment we were born but did you know, that it is the first five years of a child’s life that are most important for learning?

Providing a high-quality, stimulating learning environment through play is one of the best things you can do to set your child up to be a great learner and succeed in life.

Our Approach

  • Qualified educators

  • Work in partnership with parents

  • Child educator ratio

  • Quality of facilities

Mahogany Rise Child and Family Centre

Council’s Mahogany Rise Child and Family Centre provides a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for children from birth until they commence primary school.

Our team of committed and highly trained educators are carefully selected and will take the time to get to know you and your child.  We recognise every child is unique and will require different levels of support to reach their potential.  Families are encouraged to participate in the service and contribute to their children’s learning experiences.

Play based programs are carefully planned and developmentally appropriate for each child. Educators create physical environments that support a range of opportunities for children’s learning indoors, outdoors and within the community.  Through play, children become confident and resilient; they develop positive self-esteem, form friendships and acquire an enjoyment of learning.

Our service is integrated with Maternal and Child Health providing families with access to a diverse range of parenting advice and support.

Children enjoy the benefits of the service being co-located with the Mahogany Rise Primary School including going to the library for story time, special events and school transition activities.

Healthy eating is essential for children’s health, wellbeing and development and the service invests in quality food and an inviting menu catering for children’s special dietary considerations.

The National Early Years Learning Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework guide the operations of the service.

Transition to Primary School

We want to make the progression from a kinder or early learning centre to primary school a smooth and easy experience for everyone.

At Mahogany Rise we run our Foundation transition program from Term 2 to Term 4 this ensures students have an extended period of time to become familiar with the school and classroom environment. Our Foundation team work closely with parents and Early Childhood Educators to support students to become school ready. In addition, all parents and carers have the opportunity to meet with the Foundation teachers one on one before the beginning of the school year.

For those children attending the Mahogany Rise Early Learning Centre, our school is designed so that every day our early learners see the junior school students playing and learning. Not only that, but early learners regularly visit the school use services such as the library and have visits from senior school students who read them stories. In this way, progressing from kinder to school is an easy and natural transition.
